For those keeping track, you may have noticed that I disappeared from the blog-o-sphere and, more importantly, my training last week. Yes, I missed runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Life got in the way I suppose. It's second quarter close at work in addition to a seemingly long list of other tasks that require my attention. I also feel like the accumulation of training as really wearing me down. I know that's the intent of the Hansons-Brooks plan I've been following. But it may have been working altogether too effectively!
On top of that, I was disappointed to learn on Friday that my "backdoor" entry into November's New York City marathon was denied. So I've now missed out on this Fall's St. George and New York City marathons. This is obviously disappointing. While I'm still not exactly certain what I'm going to do with my schedule, I'm working on a tentative plan that has me in Utah for the Rich Bouchard 10k on August 4. The course has been revised since I was there last (2010?) and it looks like the course is a lot tougher (hills). My thinking is this should offer a good test of my fitness and let me better know where I'm at with this comeback.
As for a Fall marathon, I don't know for sure but I have my eye on a new northern Utah event - the
Huntsville Marathon - on September 29. The date is a little earlier than I would like but there is some appeal (and sense of urgency) to be in shape for this when the day comes. Also since it's a first-year marathon, I'm thinking I may be able to make a late decision and still get in.
Plot line to be continued ....
